Stay safe

Scams we see most often in Ottawa

Knowing the trick is the best protection. If something feels wrong, hang up and call someone you trust.

Red flag

The "CRA" call

A caller says you owe taxes and will be arrested unless you pay with gift cards or Bitcoin. The real CRA never asks for this.

Red flag

The grandchild in trouble

A "grandson" or "lawyer" calls in a panic, asks for bail money and tells you to keep it secret. Hang up and call your grandchild directly.

Red flag

The fake virus warning

A loud pop-up says your computer is infected and shows a phone number. Don't call it. Close the browser or turn the computer off.

Red flag

The parcel text

A text says a parcel is waiting and asks for a small fee by link. Don't tap it. Check the tracking number on the courier's official website.

Not sure about a call or an email? Call us before you do anything. Your first 15 minutes are free.

Quick fixes

Try these before you call

Turn it off and on

Restarting fixes many problems with phones, computers and Wi‑Fi. Wait 30 seconds before turning it back on.

Check the cables

Make sure power and internet cables are firmly plugged in and the lights on your modem are on.

Write down the message

If an error appears, write down the words or take a photo of the screen. It helps us fix it faster.

Booking for a parent?

Many of our clients are booked by their children, from Ottawa or from far away. With your parent's permission, we send you a short summary after each visit. You can pay by card or e-Transfer.
